Computer Science MSc

As a Masters level student I read and learn about programming techniques, computer and network infrastructure and protocols, data analysis and security risks. I explore a range of computing concepts such as object oriented programming, TCP/IP, classification and regression, and cryptography.

Studying at Master’s Level

As a Master’s level student, you are expected to engage with module topics and learning materials/activities at a relatively deep level, and demonstrate the following skills when doing this:

  • Complexity: recognising and dealing with complex ideas and applying this knowledge to real-life problems.
  • Analysis and synthesis: extracting knowledge from or identifying gaps within sources and then using these to construct new knowledge or meanings.
  • Depth: engaging with a narrow topic in detail to acquire and using knowledge in new and innovative ways.
  • Research: developing critical research and enquiry skills and attributes in order to form evidence-based conclusions.
  • Autonomy: taking responsibility for your own learning by being organised, motivated and conscientious.
  • Unpredictability: using knowledge and skills to deal with rapidly changing contexts in a creative way, acknowledging that there are often no definitive ‘right’ answers.
  • Professionalism: managing ethical dilemmas and working proactively and effectively with others to formulate solutions.
